Brodie is Perth’s most trusted name in glamour and portrait photography. Eighteen years of professional experience, hundreds of magazine commissions, and thousands of women photographed. Brodie never wanted to be a photographer. He started out shooting cars, got noticed, and ended up working for the car magazines. Hundreds of publications and a stack of covers later, those same magazines wanted models alongside the metal, and Brodie was the guy they trusted to deliver. That is how a bloke who never planned on picking up a camera became one of Australia’s most recognised names in glamour and portrait photography.
At the height of the print era his glamour work ran in men’s magazines like Zoo Weekly and when the Legends Football League brought its all female league to Australia in 2013/14, they needed one photographer they could trust to make their entire league roster of players look good, week in, week out. Brodie toured the country as their official Director of Photography.
Brodie has photographed an enormous number of women working across the entertainment and adult industries. Women whose income depends on the quality of their photos, and who can spot an amateur instantly. They keep choosing him for two reasons. A hard earned reputation as one of the most professional operators in the space, and results that speak for themselves. As a high end retoucher he keeps his editing subtle and realistic, so you always look like you.
The Movement
Brodie founded the “DON’T TOUCH THE MODELS” movement early in his career, when the way some photographers operated did not sit right with him. It is not just about touching, it is a whole methodology for a safe and respectful working environment, and he teaches it to every photography student he trains.
Thousands of women. Every pose known to man. Never touched a model once. There has never been a need.
Here is the part most people do not expect: the majority of Brodie’s clients today are not models. They are everyday women who walk in nervous and quiet, and an hour later are completely out of their shell, watching the back of the camera with their eyes lit up because they had no idea they could look that good. It happens so often that his standing advice is to book more time than you think you need. The letting go is where the magic starts.
“It doesn’t matter how you look, or that you’ve never done this before. I’ll coach you through the whole thing, right down to showing you the poses myself. I’m pretty good at them. I just have to be careful my assistants don’t have a camera in their hand.”
Brodie
Brodie is a location shooter by choice. He built his craft outdoors, in every lighting scenario Perth can throw at him, and that is an extra skillset most people never realise they are getting. No studio walls, no portrait package sales scripts. Just you, the location, the light, and a photographer who knows exactly what to do with all three. These days Brodie rarely shoots outside Perth. He does not need to: clients fly in from around the country to shoot with him.
